The technical side of 4 Panel Book Club is taking shape. All major features are implemented and working.

The main feature is the custom guessing system. Below each comic, there is a field where you can submit your guess. Your input is matched to a specific book using the book search provided by Open Library. There will also be an evaluation of the community guesses for each comic. So, after some time, you can check out what other readers guessed.

Other features include a general Archive and a Solutions page where you can browse published comics and their answers. I also added an RSS feed and a newsletter so you don’t miss out on new comics. 😉

During my vacation last fall, I had the idea of drawing short, silly comics about novels I love and seeing if others could guess them. It turned out to be a lot of fun, and I was surprised by how well my friends and family could identify the books. I’ve been doing that for a while now and have collected a small number of comics.

Now, I want to share them with a bigger audience. And that’s basically what this web project is about. On the website, you’ll find comics about famous novels, and you can try to guess them. Each comic takes a scene, idea or memorable part of a book and squeezes it into a tiny comic.

As the name of the project implies, most books will be depicted in four panels. However, this is no hard-and-fast rule. Some comics might have more or fewer panels (in fact, quite a lot of them do 😉). The books are mostly classics, but there are newer ones as well.

I also wanted to add some fun technical features. In particular, I am working on a system that lets you submit your guess and see what others have guessed. The solution to each comic will be revealed after some time as well.

The first comic will be published soon. Until then, I’ll use the News section to share a little about the project and how the site works.
